The question we hear most often isn't about the surgery — it's about the recovery. "When can I go back to work? When will I look normal? When can I lift my kids?" Here is the honest timeline we give every patient.
The first week is for resting, not pushing
The first week after most procedures is the hardest and the most important. Swelling and bruising peak around day three and then begin to fade. Your job that week is genuinely to do very little: rest, hydrate, walk gently, and follow your medication schedule. Patients who push too early are the ones who prolong their recovery.
The second week is when life resumes
For many procedures — eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, liposuction — the second week is when patients return to desk work and feel presentable in public. Bruising covers with makeup, and the initial soreness has largely settled. Bigger procedures like a tummy tuck or facelift ask for a little longer.
The long tail of swelling
Here's what surprises people: you'll look great to everyone else weeks before you look "final" to yourself. Residual swelling resolves over months, and the last refinement — especially in the nose and after body contouring — takes the better part of a year. Patience is part of the result.
We give every patient a written, day-by-day recovery plan at their pre-op visit, because knowing what's normal is half of a calm recovery.
